What is a Solar Assisted Heat Pump?
Solar Assisted Heat Pumps (SAHPs) combine a Ground Source Heat Pump with Solar Photovoltaic Thermal (PV-T). Collecting and extracting thermal energy from the sun and the ground to heat your home or business.
How does it work?
Different from Solar PV, Solar PV-T is designed to generate heat as well as electricity. This solar heat is then directed into the ground loop, pre-heating the ground collector making it more efficient and giving you a safe guard against a reduction in ground temperature. The ground collectors then operate in the same way as a GSHP, as the fluid in the pipes absorb the heat and then passes through the heat exchanger into the heat pump.

Government Incentives
A new government backed scheme, called The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is on offer to help with the initial cost of installing a Heat Pump. This is a voucher-based scheme providing people with an upfront grant up to £7,500 when investing in a Heat Pump.
